Annika Schmidt of Lilleputt Studio in Portland Maine

Her patterns stem from a nostalgia for childhood summers in Sweden, and a desire for joy and whimsy in all stages of life.

Lilleputt Studio is the creative studio of Annika Schmidt. After studying design abroad on an island off the coast of Sweden, Annika earned a BFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Following opportunities in textile design, she found herself in Brooklyn NY where she later met her fiancé Ryan. In search of a better life, they packed up on a whim and settled on Portland Maine, where she set up her studio late 2011.

Swedish for 'peewee', Lilleputt was named for the small size of the studio, as well as the size of some of its intended customers.  Drawing inspiration from her mother’s homeland, Annika seeks to create simple, thoughtful designs, incorporating bold pattern and color.

Her patterns stem from a nostalgia for childhood summers in Sweden, and a desire for joy and whimsy in all stages of life. Intrigued by the habits and rituals we strike up in our daily lives, she seeks to create unique items that bring attention to these perhaps otherwise overlooked small moments.
