Meet Glassmake Karen Gola from Sanford Maine

Her family is of Czech descent, a people who have created world renown glass art since the Middle Ages.  As a result she grew up surrounded by beautiful pieces of glass.

Karen was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the historic center of glassmaking in America.  Karen's family is of Czech descent, a people who have created world renown glass art since the Middle Ages.  As a result she grew up surrounded by beautiful pieces of glass.

In the early 1970's Karen began her glass career at the Silianoff Studio in Pittsburgh, making stained glass windows for religious institutions throughout the United States.  In the late 70's, after moving to Maine, she began to sell her work through galleries.

Once in Maine Karen became a Professional Engineer working on large construction projects for 25 years.  However, she never gave up her glass.

In 2000 Karen discovered kiln-formed glass.  She was hooked!  She applied and was accepted into the Studio at Corning, New York, studying under the direction of several world class glass artists.  Since then Karen has been developing her glass making skills and personal style to create the stunning pieces that you see here.
